Red Day Volunteers Roll-Up Their Sleeves for Reading
May 22nd, 2009
Last Thursday over 30 volunteers from Keller Williams Realty of Northern Colorado joined students at Putnam Elementary for reading time. Serving as morning mentors to the young readers, the brokers, administrators, and team leaders from Keller Williams enhanced the weekly program already started by bringing out more volunteers for literacy.
Red Day is a traditional day of community volunteerism for Keller Williams, now the third largest and fastest growing real estate company in the US. In honor of Mo Anderson, Vice Chairman of the Board, this great event reaches out to help the communities Keller Williams serves across the country. From area clean-ups to food drives to educational outreach, Keller agents from around the country donate their days to the effort.
Following the 2009 nationwide events, Mo stated, “My eyes are filled with tears of joy and my heart is filled with loving pride as I read your letters, learn your stories, see your photographs, and watch your videos sharing the amazing work you have done in your neighborhoods across North America. Homes have been rehabilitated. Hungry families have been fed. The elderly have received our time, care and respect. Our cities have been beautified. More acts of kindness have been given to others than can be named here.”
The local event was coordinated by David Timm of Keller Williams Realty. Steve Apodaca, Principal at Putnam Elementary joined in welcoming folks for Red Day. Chris Clarke, first grade teacher at Putnam pronounced, “It was great to have you all come in to help out”. Most were having a great time reading books and playing word games. Others, like Jeff Daniels led over 25 students in a marathon game of follow the leader. “Those kids wore me out”, said Jeff after his “rough” workday.
Reading time at Putnam is a regular weekly event for several of the Keller Williams Realty and Campus Renter Center staffers. Everyone both companies are proud to give back to the community in any way they can.
