by Joy Ferguson, Relocation Director

When Adrienne Zoble was 12 years old she took the Kuder Test. Armed with a pen, she completed the questionnaire and it became quite clear she was a “yes” for marketing, and a “no” for math, science and the great outdoors.

She never looked back.

During the summer of Adrienne’s junior year at college she worked at J. Walter Thompson Company for seven copy writers. Returning to college after her New York experience was miserable, so Adrienne joined J. Walter Thompson Company, this time in the Media Department. She finished her degree in the evening.

These were times in the Advertising Industry when the glass ceiling wasn’t the issue for a woman, just breaking through the walls was a challenge. Married and pregnant, there was no maternity leave. Companies did not have to provide this.

Adrienne overcame this obstacle and became the Media Director of a New Jersey company, and then in 1977 she channeled her considerable energy and talent to start her own business. First Adrienne Zoble Advertising, and then as she took on staff, Adrienne Zoble Associates.

Adrienne and I had a wonderful conversation about her career. This is what she shared:

Marketing Defined
Adrienne explained to me that marketing is the umbrella. Everything under that umbrella, from answering the phone to advertising and public relations, are the spokes a company needs in order to win and maintain customers.

The profile of a company that would benefit for Adrienne’s Marketing Plan
An established or growing business that has hit a snag. Adrienne can offer her 3-month minimum Broads On Business Membership (men welcome), and then go month-to-month. Accountability is key. Adrienne will examine your business and then give you a step-by-step approach to consistent, effective marketing. She will also let you know what is working in your marketing plan – if it isn’t broke, Adrienne won’t fix-it.

What to expect from Adrienne’s Marketing Plan
During this time you would meet with Adrienne monthly. Warning, she will give you homework. Remember, it is about accountability. If you have a specific meeting or event, you will also have her professional advice. From something as seemingly simple as introducing yourself to a networking group to sophisticated marketing, Adrienne will assist you with building the layers of a successful business.

The Expert that Networks
Having moved from New Jersey to Colorado in 2001, Adrienne knew she had to get her name “out there” as they say. Adrienne had to in fact market herself. She is a walking example of networking. She is an active member of the Colorado Women of Influence, The Front Range Business Network, Bravo and the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.

In Conclusion
If you feel your business is stuck, or is just not moving forward in the direction you feel it should. If you feel you are just trying so many different avenues of marketing, but nothing is really working, then contact Adrienne. She is passionate about her business and could be just what you need!

January 2012 Fort Collins Real Estate market statistics are in. Each month we track the following leading market indicators for Fort Collins, Colorado:

Under Contract = Number of properties under contract

Sold = Number of sold properties

Months Supply of Inventory = The MSI is an estimate of how long it will take for all the homes in a market area to be sold, or absorbed, based on the number of homes currently on the market and the rate that homes have sold in the past. A market is considered balanced when the MSI falls between 5-7 months. Under 5 months is considered a seller’s market and over 7 months is considered a buyer’s market.

My obsession to-date for 2012: tackling the three-headed giant of Goal, Task and Time Management. Like so many I’m searching for the elusive 25th hour in the day. I’ve always suspected it’s hiding somewhere behind the email backlog, office interruptions, and my general responsibilities as wife, mom and career woman in the tech industry. As luck would have it, “Time Bandits” was the topic of the Fort Collins Internet Professionals (FCIP) meet-up I attended last week, how apropos. Not only did I pick up some great new tech tools to help me in my quest, but I was delighted to learn I’m not the only one that adds completed tasks to my list just so I can see them crossed off.

Here is my new strategy:

Goal-setting with the 4-1-1: I’ve used the 4-1-1 method for years to manage my business and personal goals. In short, every Monday I set weekly goals that support my monthly goals that in turn support my annual goals. Keller Williams offers a slick online 4-1-1 that I update weekly, but you can also download a version at www.productivitywarrior.com.

Task Management with Wunderlist: I realized recently I developed a bad habit of co-mingling my goals and tasks. These two require separate management techniques. After reviewing different options I settled on Wunderlist to manage my tasks. Using Wunderlist, I’ve separated and categorized business and personal tasks. Lastly, per great advice from the FCIP meet-up, I’m maintaining a Top 6 list of the six tasks I must get done today.

Here is a great article I came across when researching task management tools – “14 Online Task Management Tools.”

“Time…You Ain’t No Friend of Mine:” I’ve heard it over and over again, TIMEBLOCK. This is the year I embrace time blocking. A few techniques I recently implemented:

I started with the worst offender – EMAIL. I now do a 10 minute check first thing in the morning followed by a mid-day check and one check in the afternoon. Email isn’t instant messenger so I need to stop treating it like that.

Gmail Snooze – thanks to Patrick Quinn (@IamSigmund) I installed Gmail Snooze. This allows me to time-delay emails from appearing in my Inbox until I need to deal with them.

Small pockets of time are a goldmine – good reminder last week from Ron Zasadzinski (@ron_z). Now that my tasks are organized it’s easy for me to check-in and find tasks I can accomplish within the small gaps of time that present themselves throughout the day.

Lastly, I’m a morning person so when possible I’m moving meetings to the pm, dedicating my prime time to the Top 6.

I would love to hear what approach and tools you use to manage your goals, tasks and time. Please leave your comments below. I’m off now to cross this blog post off my task list [insert satisfied smile].

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) was recently approved by the federal government for $2.18 billion to fund the improvements, the vision for which includes:

A new lane in each direction of I-25 between State Highways 66 and 14.

A commuter rail service connecting Fort Collins and Longmont.

A new express bus system along I-25 with buses running from Fort Collins and Greeley to Denver International Airport and Downtown Denver.

CDOT is responsible for a 9,146 mile highway system with 3,447 bridges. Over 27.4 billion vehicle miles are clocked on the system each year.

December 2011 Fort Collins Real Estate market statistics are in.

Inman News recently used Zillow.com data to compile a list of nine markets with rising real estate values. More specifically, metro areas were examined for year-over-year median home-value increases from October 2010 to October 2011. Fort Collins came in at #6 with a 1.3% year-over-year increase in median home-value:

9 markets with rising real estate values
1. Tulsa, Oklahoma
2. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
3. Lincoln, Nebraska
4. Madison, Wisconsin
5. Honolulu, Hawaii
6. Fort Collins, Colorado
7. Fort Myers, Florida
8. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
9. Boulder, Colorado

According to the report, the median value of a home in Fort Collins is $217,300. Mortgage rates continue to push lower, dropping to 3.98% from 4.23% in October of 2010, offering historic affordability to today’s home buyers. While mortgage lending conditions continue to be a challenge, more and more people are seeing the advantage of buying a home sooner rather than later. This bodes well for the Fort Collins housing market.

According to the recently released Farmers Insurance Secure Places to Live Survey, the Fort Collins-Loveland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is a great place for just such a holiday.

Air quality, life expectancy, mortality rates from cancer and motor vehicle accidents, crime statistics, housing depreciation, foreclosures, job loss numbers, terrorist threats, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, and environmental hazards were taken into consideration for 379 metropolitan areas. After crunching the numbers, the Fort Collins-Loveland area came in as ninth-most secure mid-sized MSA (populations from 150,000 to 500,000). This ranking comes of the heels of Allstate Insurance ranking Fort Collins as the #1 Safest Driving City.

Boulder, CO also took a top spot on the mid-sized MSA’s Secure Places to Live Survey, coming in at #2. You can read the complete Farmers Insurance press release at:
